Just read something I had to pass along – a mom in Missouri wrote a post about her preschool son dressing up as Daphne from Scooby Doo for Halloween. It’s a brilliant story about standing up for your kids, but it’s also about saving childhood for free imagination. Grade school is already a stinging awakening for kids about what is “normal” and what is socially acceptable. But I think we as parents could save preschool for childhood fun.
When he was four, my son dressed up as Dory from Finding Nemo. I didn’t even know Dory was a girl until someone asked me. To which I replied with amazement, “It’s a FISH.”
